Remember live shows? I witnessed the marvel that is Van Etten live at the Danforth Music Hall in Toronto in February of 2019. Armed with her biggest song to date, the astonishing Seventeen, she projected a new confidence and happiness that was a welcome sign for someone who had been famously forlorn.  Back in 2014, she recorded Every Time the Sun Comes Up, a languorous journey that seduces with repeated listenings. It’s so great to see that someone who can still mine the depths has learned how to climb out.
