A bonus track for St. Patrick's Day. Any excuse to listen to The Pogues is a good one.
‘McCormack and Richard Tauber are singing by the bed/There's a glass of punch below your feet and an angel at your head/There's devils on each side of you with bottles in their hands/You need one more drop of poison and you'll dream of foreign lands…’
Notorious binge-drinker and balladeer Shane MacGowan got his smile restored – reportedly through a nine-hour dental procedure in 2015 – but the legend lives on. His early days with The Pogues, and in particular the album Rum, Sodomy & The Lash, are incomparable. And the Sick Bed of Cucchalainn – follow the lyrics here – sounds as badass today as ever.
I was listening to this very CD on Thursday on the way to hockey. Helped keep me sane in the traffic! Great album, great song!
